"It is with a feeling of deep gratitude and immense admiration that the Portuguese Football Federation wishes to, publicly, praise and thank the absolutely extraordinary career of Cristiano Ronaldo in the service of our country," the governing body stated in an official release on its website.
The FPF highlighted that, "throughout a legendary international career, marked by 234 international caps and 146 goals scored, the captain carried the country on his shoulders, broke records and led the team in the conquest of moments that will remain forever engraved in the history of national football."
"Cristiano Ronaldo elevated the name of Portugal and inspired generations of young people who dream of following in his footsteps, being, for many of us, the best player of all time," the federation added.
Following the forward's departure announcement, released via a social media video, the federation's leadership confirmed its intention to organize, plan, and actively collaborate on a fitting tribute to honor the Portuguese icon's historic career.
