A story that spans generations
The first teaser for *Marta*, a biographical film about the life and career of Marta Vieira da Silva, has been released.
The legendary Brazilian footballer has won numerous titles for clubs and the national team over a career spanning more than 25 years – and which is still ongoing – as well as helping to pave the way for improving the quality and visibility of women’s football.
The film will follow her journey from her childhood in a low-income family in the town of Dois Riachos, in Alagoas, to her courageous move, whilst still a teenager, to try her luck in Rio de Janeiro.
The production will also showcase her rise to prominence in Brazil and abroad, until she established herself as one of the greatest women’s footballers of all time and inspired a generation of girls who are now leading a new wave in the sport.
From Dois Riachos to Sweden
Many of the places that played a key role in Marta’s story were used as filming locations.
Dois Riachos will be the setting for her childhood, whilst the São Januário stadium will represent her time at Vasco da Gama in the early 2000s. Meanwhile, the Granja Comary training centre in Teresópolis will be used to depict her triumphant career with the Brazilian national team.
Part of the filming also took place in Sweden, where Marta spent several years of her career and achieved great success with Umeå IK.
The film is directed and produced by Andrucha Waddington and stars Alice Carvalho in the lead role.
Conspiração Filmes, responsible for the film’s production and distribution, posted the teaser on its Instagram page with a caption that sums up the essence of the story: ‘A tribute to those who have made their own lives a symbol of courage: the story of the woman who conquered the world and paved the way for an entire generation on the pitch.’ (Instagram – Conspiração Filmes)
The film is set to premiere on 8 April 2027.
Marta and the Ballon d'Or
Since the creation of the women’s Ballon d'Or award in 2018, Marta has received three nominations:

-
2019 – 16th place (Orlando Pride, 6 points)
-
2025 – 12th place (Orlando Pride, 106 points)
At the age of 40, the veteran player is still active and is captain of the Brazilian national team. Fans are now waiting to find out what role she will play in the upcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup, which will be held next year in Brazil.
A legacy that goes beyond the pitch
More than just recounting a career packed with titles and achievements, Marta comes to the screen to revisit the journey of a woman who helped change the place of women’s football in Brazil and around the world.
A story that began in Dois Riachos, spanned continents and inspired millions – and which is now being told in a new way for future generations.
