There was never any real jeopardy that Harry Kane would fail to secure a third consecutive leading goalscorer merit in the Bundesliga this season.
Scoring a brace of hat-tricks in his first four league outings, Kane has been streets ahead of his peers from the get-go this term, posting numbers that nobody else could get close to. Yet another hat-trick, converted on the final day against FC Koln confirmed his individual triumph, but really there was no need for confirmation. He was already 14 goals beyond his nearest rival, Stuttgart’s Deniz Undav.
All told, the England star has fired 58 goals across all competitions for Bayern Munich this season, at a rate of a goal every 68.2 minutes. Once again he has proven himself to be an apex finisher of rare repute.
Given his astonishing prolificacy it may therefore surprise to learn that Kane did not claim the Bundesliga Player of the Season award, as he did last year. Instead that honour this time was bestowed on his team-mate and attacking cohort Michael Olise.
The French schemer has been sensational all season long, racking up 15 goals and 21 assists in the league alone for Bayern as they stormed their way to a 35th domestic crown. Pertinently 11 of those assists were for Kane, the pair forging a formidable partnership for Die Roten that no defence could contain.
Bayern ended their campaign having scored 122 league goals, their highest tally since 1965.
On receipt of his award, Olise was gracious enough to acknowledge the role Kane had played in his outstanding campaign, saying on the Allianz pitch last weekend:
"It's top, playing with Harry. You learn so much playing with a player like him”
“This season so far has gone well. We've got one more match, so I hope that goes well as well.”
The match the London-born 24-year-old refers to is Bayern’s DFB-Pokal final against Stuttgart this Saturday. That’s right, Kane could yet add to his remarkable haul.
