Harry Kane’s crowning at the London Palladium as the winner of the 2026 Ballon d'Or immediately sparked speculation in the transfer market.

With the title of world’s best player to his name and a devastating run of form, the 33-year-old striker was linked with various top-flight clubs.

However, the England captain nipped any speculation in the bud and made a definitive decision regarding his professional future.

On Thursday 5 November, Harry Kane did not hesitate to accept the offer and signed a contract extension with Bayern Munich until June 2029.

The striker sealed his future at the Allianz Arena with a message expressing his strong sense of belonging to the Bavarian club and its sporting project:

“I feel so good being part of FC Bayern: I love the club, the fans, the stadium in Munich. We really do have a fantastic team and, in Vincent Kompany, a fantastic manager,” he said.

He added: “It makes me feel very proud, as if I belong to this family. I’m looking forward to an exciting future with Bayern! Here’s to many more victories, trophies and great memories.”

From his arrival in 2023 to the pinnacle of world football

Kane’s association with Bayern began in mid-2023 following his emotional departure from Tottenham Hotspur.

It was whilst wearing the Bavarian club’s shirt that the English striker won the first official title of his career, claiming the Bundesliga championship.

That long-awaited triumph in the German league ended a personal drought of more than a decade at the highest level and ushered in a golden era that culminated in him winning the Ballon d'Or.

Since arriving in Germany, the British striker has raised his game to new heights, culminating in a sensational 2025–26 season that earned him the top individual honour in 2026:

  • 65 competitive matches

  • 73 goals scored

  • 8 assists

  • 3 titles: Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and DFB-Supercup

In the league, he scored 36 goals in 31 matches (one goal every 66.1 minutes), securing his third consecutive Torjägerkanone and the second European Golden Boot of his career.

He added to these figures with 14 goals in the Champions League, a hat-trick in the DFB-Pokal final against VfB Stuttgart and six goals at the 2026 World Cup, a tally that saw him overtake Gary Lineker as England’s all-time leading goalscorer at World Cups.

The new king of world football

His contract extension comes hot on the heels of his victory at one of the most hotly contested award ceremonies in recent times.
