Dear readers of Ballondor.com

Voting for the BOAT ( the All-Time Ballon d’Or ) has generated a great deal of enthusiasm. We would like to thank you for your enthusiasm, your participation and your interest in this initiative. This success has also given rise to numerous questions and, at times, misinterpretations. We therefore feel it is important to clarify a few points so that everyone can take part in full knowledge of the facts.

A public vote, not a new trophy

Since the launch of the BOAT on 1 October, our intention has been clear: to give a voice to football fans, enthusiasts and connoisseurs through a public vote to choose the greatest Ballon d’Or winner of all time.

The idea? To allow you to choose, from among the ten players who have won the Ballon d’Or more than twice, the one who best embodies this honour.

We know how much the public cares about the Ballon d’Or and how keen they are to be part of its history. The B.O.A.T. was born out of this desire to foster an international community centred around football’s most prestigious individual award.

Some of you have wondered whether this vote would lead to the creation of a new trophy. The answer is no. We have never announced the creation of an additional trophy. From the outset, the B.O.A.T has been a public vote. It is not about creating a new official award, but about enabling fans to share their choice and make their voices heard.

A timetable announced at the launch

Voting opened on 1 October and will continue until the evening of 27 October. The results will be revealed on 28 October on Ballondor.com, the official Ballon d’Or website.

Our aim with the ballondor.com platform is to extend the experience well beyond the ceremony, bringing to life on a daily basis the stories, performances and key moments that shape this award.

There you’ll find news, articles, statistics and analysis dedicated to the players nominated for the Ballon d’Or, as well as polls and quizzes to get involved in the life of this community.

The B.O.A.T is part of this approach: to make the Ballon d’Or an experience to be shared with fans around the world.

Why is there a charge to vote in the BOAT?

Participants receive a historic photograph of the first Ballon d’Or and can enter a prize draw to win two tickets to the 2027 Ballon d’Or ceremony.

The newsletter: to receive the results in advance

When you take part, we also invite you to subscribe to the Ballondor.com newsletter.

Subscription is not compulsory to vote. However, if you’d like to receive a sneak preview of the B.OAT results, you can sign up using a valid email address.

Do you have any further questions?

We hope this initiative will also provide an opportunity to engage with you. If there are any points that need clarifying, a contact form is available within the game. Please feel free to send us your questions: we’ll do our best to answer them as they come in.

The B.O.A.T. is your vote.
