Harry Kane’s highly prolific campaign reached a significant landmark at the Allianz Arena this week when he struck his 50th goal of 2025/26. Achieving the feat in 42 matches it is the second fastest a player has hit a half-century in the modern era across Europe’s big five leagues.

Typically the England ace didn’t waste his historic strike on a stat-padding fifth or sixth for Bayern against a German minnow. Instead, his sweetly curled effort beat Real Madrid keeper Andriy Lunin as Die Roten progressed to the Champions League semi-finals following a thrilling 4-3 encounter.

Such high-profile epoch-making will obviously do his cause no harm at all, as the 30-year-old seeks to become the first Englishman since Michael Owen to secure a prestigious Ballon d’Or. Kane was already among the favourites for the honour after fast establishing himself a revelation in the Bundesliga.

The forward ended last season with 26 goals in the league alone, with a further 11 scored in the Champions League for good measure.

His inaugural season in Bavaria meanwhile saw him net 36 in domestic action, a record number for a newcomer to the Bundesliga. It also gained him a Golden Shoe as Europe’s leading marksman.

Yet he has never before struck 50 across all competitions, a figure that puts him among some illustrious company. Long considered one of the world’s most lethal finishers, Kane now takes his place alongside Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Robert Lewandowski – his predecessor at Bayern – and Erling Haaland.

It is telling that the first two names in that exclusive group share 13 Ballon d’Or awards between them.

Breaking down Kane’s magical half-century reveals what a true goal-poacher he is, with 44 of them converted inside the box. Thirty-six of them were dispatched with his stronger right foot. Only seven with his head.

Pertinently, the forward still has at least eight games to go this term, as he vies to match, or surpass, Messi’s remarkable 60-goal haul from 2012/13.
